As per the comment at #1640 (comment), the removal of existing application definitions has been separated from the addition of new content so that the NIAC can vote on the removal independently.
Based on discussions with community members, these application definitions are not currently in use. Spectroscopy-related data is most commonly shared via the XDI format, or, where XDI is not applicable, directly via HDF5.
