fix(examples): convert example values to their schema types - #800
Terraform registry examples sometimes quote numbers and booleans, for example pending_window_in_days = "7" in alicloud_kms_key. That is valid HCL, because Terraform converts the value at plan time. transformFields copied the string into the generated manifest unchanged, but the CRD types the field as a number or a boolean, so applying the generated example fails validation:
spec.forProvider.pendingWindowInDays: Invalid value: "string": spec.forProvider.pendingWindowInDays in body must be of type number
transformFields already looks up each field's schema with config.GetSchema. It now uses it to convert:
string values of TypeInt, TypeFloat and TypeBool fields;
the elements of lists, sets and maps whose Elem is one of those types.
Only literals that parse are converted. Interpolations such as ${var.size} and other strings are left as they are, and a bool must be exactly "true" or "false" (strconv.ParseBool would also accept "1", "t" and others). String fields are never touched, so a numeric-looking ID in a TypeString field stays a string. Fields in nested blocks are covered by the existing recursion.
This touches pkg/examples/example.go, like #753. That PR adds helpers after transformFields and changes writeManifest, and doesn't change the line this PR changes. The tests are in a new file, example_types_test.go, so they don't collide with the example_test.go that #753 adds.
Run make reviewable to ensure this PR is ready for review (see below for the lint step).
Added backport release-x.y labels to auto-backport this PR if necessary.
How has this code been tested
TestTransformFieldsConvertsToSchemaTypes covers quoted ints, floats and bools; strings that must stay strings (including a numeric-looking value in a TypeString field and in a set of strings); interpolations and other values that don't parse; values that are already typed; lists, sets and maps of primitives; and fields inside a nested block. The three converting cases fail without the change in example.go.
make reviewable: generate leaves no diff and test passes (56 packages). The lint step's pinned golangci-lint v2.13.2 can't load export data from my local Go 1.27.3, so I ran golangci-lint v2.15.0 with the repo's config over ./... instead: 0 issues.
End to end with provider-upjet-alibabacloud, which uses upjet v2.4.2. I applied this commit on top of v2.4.2 and regenerated all 223 example manifests. That provider has worked around Example generator emits numeric fields as quoted strings, failing Create validation #779 with a post-processing script that unquotes numeric fields by checking the generated YAML against the CRDs. With this change and the script removed, a run of the script over the output finds nothing left to fix. The change also fixes 29 quoted booleans the script never handled (for example healthCheckEnabled: "false" on the ALB server groups the ALB examples create, and encrypted: "true" on the disk in the ECS disk attachment example), and a map of floats (additionalVersionWeight: {"2": "0.5"} in FC 3.0 aliases).
Terraform registry examples sometimes quote numbers and booleans, for
example `pending_window_in_days = "7"`. That is valid HCL because
Terraform converts the value at plan time, but transformFields copied
the string into the generated manifest unchanged. The CRD types the
field as a number or a boolean, so applying the example fails
validation:
spec.forProvider.pendingWindowInDays: Invalid value: "string":
spec.forProvider.pendingWindowInDays in body must be of type number
transformFields already looks up each field's schema, so it now converts
string values of TypeInt, TypeFloat and TypeBool fields, and the
elements of lists, sets and maps of those types. Only literals that
parse are converted: interpolations and other strings are left as they
are, and a bool must be "true" or "false". Fields in nested blocks are
covered through the existing recursion.

Walkthrough
transformFields now converts supported string values to types specified by the Terraform schema, including values in supported collections and nested blocks. A table-driven test covers conversions and values that remain unchanged.

Summary
Convert and test schema-backed values pkg/examples/example.go, pkg/examples/example_types_test.go
transformFields converts parseable integer and finite float strings, and exact "true" or "false" strings, based on the field schema. Supported collection elements are converted when their element schema is available. Tests cover scalar fields, collections, nested blocks, and values that remain unchanged.
No actionable merge-blocking risk was identified in the schema-based example conversion. The change is ready to merge after normal checks.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #779 requires schema-aware conversion of quoted numeric values in generated manifests. transformFields now converts parseable TypeInt and TypeFloat strings, including primitive elements in lists, sets, and maps. Existing recursion covers nested blocks. The focused test covers conversion, preservation of string fields, failed parses, and nested and collection values.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay within the scope of #779. Boolean conversion and primitive collection handling extend the same schema-aware manifest conversion and help prevent type-validation failures. The production change and focused tests do not show unrelated behavior.

Explanation
The pull request changes only pkg/examples/example.go and pkg/examples/example_types_test.go. It does not change any pkg/controller/external*.go template, so it cannot introduce the checked template-related behavior change.

strconv.ParseFloat accepts "NaN", "Inf" and "-Inf". Converting those
would put a non-finite float64 in the example, and sigs.k8s.io/yaml
marshals through encoding/json, which rejects non-finite numbers, so
generation would fail where it used to write the value as a string.
Only finite floats are converted now.
The parsing moves to parseFiniteFloat to keep convertPrimitive under
the gocyclo limit.
