What changes

  • ThothDock engine 0.3.1 (snap: resumable downloads, store aliases, install squashfs-tools itself ThothDock#9 and Resolute 0.3.3 changelog: also the 24-bit colour fix #10, pinned at 631c67f):
    • snap downloads show progress and are bounded by a 60 s stall instead of 10 minutes in total. They resume where they stopped, within one run and across runs.
    • store aliases such as gcloud, gsutil and bq are created.
    • snap install installs squashfs-tools by itself.
    • Engine Guard keeps the stock snapd out; it is added to EngineGuard.PROTECTED.
  • flatpak wrapper:
    • On first use it installs flatpak and dbus without recommends: 48 packages instead of 205. dbus is only a Recommends of flatpak, but the wrapper's system bus needs it.
    • It then adds Flathub with --user.
    • It sets FLATPAK_BWRAP when it's unset, so sudo flatpak (which clears the environment) still sandboxes through ThothDock instead of the stock bwrap.
  • Volume keys are no longer Ctrl and Fn by default. Pressing Volume Down twice locked Ctrl (a triangle in the cursor), and after that every letter was sent as a control character, without the volume ever changing. Users who never chose a key get the new default. Anyone can still pick a key in Settings.

Tests

  • Unit tests: garden-common 391 (new VolumeKeyDefaultsTest), garden-debian 38, 0 failures. Go 1.26.8, as in the recipe.
  • On a Samsung SM-A165F, with 0.5.2 plus the new snap binary and wrapper:
    • squashfs-tools was installed automatically;
    • core22 was interrupted at about 37 MB and resumed from the kept 40.8 MB;
    • gcloud --version ran through the new alias;
    • flatpak's first use took 52 s and added Flathub;
    • org.freedesktop.appstream.cli was installed and run with FLATPAK_BWRAP unset (AppStream 1.2.0).
  • The reproducible fdroid build --on-server runs are in progress.

…ume keys

- ThothDock engine 0.3.1 (631c67f): snap downloads show progress, are
  bounded by a 60 s stall instead of 10 minutes in total and resume where
  they stopped; store aliases (gcloud, gsutil, bq); squashfs-tools is
  installed by snap install itself; Engine Guard keeps the stock snapd
  out (snapd added to EngineGuard.PROTECTED).
- flatpak wrapper: on first use installs flatpak and dbus (dbus is only
  a Recommends but the wrapper's system bus needs it; 48 packages instead
  of 205 with recommends) and adds Flathub for the user. It sets
  FLATPAK_BWRAP when unset, so "sudo flatpak" still sandboxes through
  ThothDock instead of the stock bwrap.
- Volume Down and Volume Up are no longer Ctrl and Fn by default: two
  presses of Volume Down locked Ctrl (a triangle in the cursor) and every
  letter became a control character, without the volume changing.

Device (SM-A165F, 0.5.2 with the new snap binary and wrapper): squashfs
auto-install, core22 download interrupted and resumed, gcloud alias,
flatpak first use (52 s) + Flathub, org.freedesktop.appstream.cli
installed and run with FLATPAK_BWRAP unset.
Unit tests: garden-common 391, garden-debian 38, 0 failures.
